About Bodhgaya Museum

Bodhgaya is one of the most venerated pilgrimages centers for the Buddhists as prince Siddhartha has attained supreme enlightenment at this place and became Buddha for the emancipation of mankind. The Archaeological Survey of India established the museum in the year 1956 for preserving and providing better security to the priceless antiquities and artifacts found during excavations in the premises of Mahabodhi Temple.

  • The museum preserves remarkable sculptures of Pala period i.e 8th-12th century.
  • At present the museum has more than one thousand six hundred antiquities,
  • The greatest attractions of this museum are the fragments of stone railings which once enclosed the sacred Bodhi Tree.
